Elvira “Vi” E. Walior
Elvira “Vi” E. Walior, 85, Hibbing, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, surrounded by her family, in the Fairview Range Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born June 13, 1927 in Nashwauk, the daughter of Jacob and Mary Specht.
Vi worked at the Hibbing General Hospital as a nurse’s aide on the pediatrics floor and other various positions at the hospital in her 30 year career. When the hospital changed locations and became the University Medical Center-Mesabi, Vi worked in the purchasing dept., until her retirement in the 1980’s. Vi had a full life, loving and enjoying her family. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (and it’s) the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Her other hobbies included bowling, card playing, deer hunting, camping and especially spending time with the grandchildren she loved.
She is survived by her children Richard Walior of Chisholm, Cathy (Mike) Birch of Bovey, MN, Bobbi (Lynda Griffith) Walior of Bovey and Mark (Sherry) Walior of Side Lake, MN and 5 grandchildren; Nicole Birch, Adam Birch, Justin Birch, Skye Linn and Robbie Walior and 4 great grandchildren, her sister Patsy (Harlan) Fluesemann of Little America, MN and her brothers: Jacob Specht of Duluth and Richard (Rose) Specht of Aurora, MN and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Robert “Bob” Walior, sisters; Marie Metzer, Loretta Lane and Evie Brueske, and brothers; John Specht, Raymond Specht, Vernon Specht, Louis and Herb Specht.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing. Visitation will be in the church Friday from 10 am. until service time. Her grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home.
