Emily Eileen Jacobson

Emily Eileen Jacobson, 88 of Hibbing, MN died on Jan. 22, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN.  She was born on June 26, 1926, to George and Estie (Leonard) Angell in Blackduck, MN. Emily attended Blackduck schools where she and her twin sister, Emie “Chub” along with brothers and sisters were active in various activities.
On January 22, 1944, Emily was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Jacobson in Blackduck. Shortly after they were married, Bob was called into the U.S. Army and was deployed to the Pacific Theater, stationed in Hawaii.  Following Bob’s discharge, they made their home in Tenstrike, MN before moving to Hibbing in 1951, for his employment with M.A.Hanna Mining Company.  Emily was a homemaker and together they raised four children.  The family enjoyed boating and water skiing on their many camping trips which often included the families of Earl Rancourt and Norm Holm.
During the winters they were avid sports fans, following youth and high school hockey.
She was especially fond of watching ice skating shows, and walking along Townline Road.  Emily and Bob enjoyed traveling in their motor home and visiting friends in Minnesota and Canada.  A special vacation was their trip to Hawaii 25 years after Bob’s military service.
Sadly, Bob died in 1990, just two years after his retirement.  Emily always enjoyed seeing family and looked forward to the weekly gatherings of her close friends.  She loved traveling with her daughter, Ricki, and husband, Dave, cruising to Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, and Cancun.
Emily is survived by two daughters, Ricki (Dave) Koch of Missoula, MT and Rebecca (Brian Johnson) Zallar, of Hibbing, MN; two sons, Robert (Lynda) Jacobson, of Bemidji, MN and Ronald (Kari Smerud) Jacobson of Hibbing, MN.  She also is survived by 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; two brothers, George (Heidi) Angell, and Tom Angell; by two sisters, Estie Moss, and Emie (Irvin) Swanson.
A memorial Service will be 11 AM on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at Hibbing Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Restoration Covenant Church, 7707 147th St. W.
