Eugene E. Michael
Eugene E. Michael, 84, lifelong resident of Nashwauk died Friday, December 6, 2013 at home. He was born on October 6, 1929 to Alfred T. and Hilda E. (Holm) Michael in Nashwauk, MN. He was married to Lorraine Prosch on August 19, 1950 in Nashwauk. Eugene was first employed as a maintanence mechanic with Butler Brothers Mining Company working there for 37 years, he then worked for National Steel Pellet Company for three years, retiring in 1988 after 40 years of service. Eugene was a member of the Nashwauk Lutheran Church in Nashwauk, he loved his music, dancing with his wife and especially being a grandpa and great-grandpa.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine Michael, Nashwauk, three children, Shirley (Tyrone) Hanson, Hoffman, MN., Douglas (Susan) Michael, Browerville, MN., and Sandra “Sandy” (Richard) Payfer, River Falls, WI., his brother, Richard (Kathy) Michael, Kingston, AZ., eight grandchildren, Michael (Martha) Hanson, Kara (Scott) Larson, Taryn (John) Klawiter, Leah Michael, Reid (Tasha) Michael, Lindsey Michael, Jeremy (Angela) Payfer, and Jason (Josie) Payfer, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Hilda, one brother, Edward Michael, and two sisters, Marie Nash and Delores Kinkel.
Per Eugene’s request there was a private family funeral service held at the Nashwauk Lutheran Church in Nashwauk. Interment was in the Nashwauk Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
