Evelyn M. Anderson

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we are announcing the passing of Evelyn M. Anderson, 93, longtime resident of Nashwauk.

Evelyn was born February 13, 1925 to Augustus and Daisy Yingling in Westminister, Maryland. She left us on Saturday December 8, 2018 to join her husband Floyd Anderson, parents Augustus and Daisy, 3 sisters, 12 brothers and great grandson Sean Allen.

Evelyn had a love for life and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Before her husband passed, they spent time traveling the United States, usually with a grandchild or two in tow. The two of them also enjoyed playing music and were members of the Second Wind Harmonica Band of Grand Rapids. Evelyn played the auto harp, tambourine and wooden clacker while her husband Floyd played harmonica. Evelyn was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

Evelyn had a passion for gardening and had been published in Better Homes and Garden for her massive peonies. She also grew an amazing vegetable garden and enjoyed canning. She canned the best dill pickles and sauerkraut! Evelyn also enjoyed baking. Anyone who ever spent any amount of time at her home could tell you that she always had a brownie and a cup of coffee to offer. Ask her grandchildren about her secret to a successful cake and they will tell you Grandma would say you had to be quiet while it baked, or it would “fall”.  Maybe just some quiet time for Grandma? Who knows but Grandma’s cakes were delicious and always looked good too.

When Evelyn wasn’t gardening, canning or baking she was probably doing a puzzle, sewing, knitting or crocheting. She was a woman with many talents and will be missed by all.

She is survived by her son Floyd (Mary Lou) Anderson and daughter Joan Pedolsky, grandchildren Stacie (David) Crow, Tammy Godec, Michael Warwas, Steven (Marci) Anderson, Kristopher (Krista) Anderson and great grandchildren Christina Shalvay, Kimberly Shalvay, Anthony Shalvay, Nikolas Godec, Hanna Anderson, Zoe Anderson, Hunter Anderson, Owen Anderson, Fiona Rose Anderson, and Harmony Jane Anderson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Cloverdale Hall in Nashwauk. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
