Filomena “Phena” C. Rano
Filomena C. Rano, 97, lifelong resident of Hibbing died, Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. She was born on November 4, 1914 to Joseph and Nicolina Rano in Stevenson Location near Hibbing. She resided in Washington DC., until moving overseas during WWII. She traveled Europe and then returned to Hibbing were she was employed as a secretary for the Hibbing Social Security Office. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. She enjoyed playing Bridge, and was known as an accomplished artist.
She is survived by her nephews, Richard (Donna) Rano, Westerville, OH., Dennis Rano, Palm Springs, CA., Donald Rano, Pittsburg, CA., nieces, Caroline Baptist, Santa Rosa, CA., and Darlene (Michael) Uyeno, Danville, CA., and many grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Nicolina Rano, and her three brothers, Mario, Joseph, and Richard Rano.
Funeral services for Filomena will be held at 11:00am, Thursday October 18, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Anthony Craig will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Memorials may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Building Fund. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
