Floyd Earl Lahti
Floyd Earl Lahti, 78, lifelong resident of Toivola, died on July 6, 2012. Floyd was born on June 2, 1934 to Eino and Ily (Nyberg) Lahti. He attended school in Toivola and was very active in 4-H in his youth. In 1952, he graduated from the North Central School of Agriculture in Grand Rapids. Floyd served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1956 through 1958. Shortly after his discharge that December, he went on his first date with Betty (Myhrman) Lahti on Christmas Day. They married the following summer on August 14, 1959. Together they raised four sons. Floyd was self-employed his entire life as a second-generation farmer and proprietor of Lahti Farms, as well as an owner/operator for Kirscher Transport and McComb Trucking. He was a lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church, a founding member of the Toivola Volunteer Fire Department, had served as a supervisor on the Toivola Township Board, and was a past commander of the Kral-Matha-Peterson VFW Post 3044. He loved his family, working, polka music, machinery, watching his granddaughters’ high school sports, and traveling to Colorado to visit his son.
Floyd is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Betty; son Larry (Connie) of Proctor and their family Sherry, Curt, Kaylyn, and Krista Mottonen, Brian, Misty, Jordan, and Jacob Wick, Craig Lahti, Jamie Lahti (Justin Goranson) and Reese Goranson; son Mark of Littleton, CO; son Jeff (Diane Esterberg) of Toivola and his children Zachary and Kirstin; son Shawn (Katherine) of Toivola and their daughter Annika; sister Joyce (Ralph) Miller of O’Fallon, IL; a niece, nephew, and numerous cousins; and his cat Kissa. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Visitation will take place at Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, on Thursday, July 12 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., and will resume on Friday at the Hope Lutheran Church in Toivola for one hour prior to the 1:00 p.m funeral service. Fellowship will take place at the Lavell Town Hall following the service. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
