Frank Samec

Frank R. Samec, 86, of Hibbing, passed away on October 3, 2016 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids, MN.  Frank was born on November 7, 1929 in Ely, Minnesota to Frank Samec and Mary Deslich.  Following his early years in Ely’s Savoy Location, Frank was employed by the U.S. Forestry Service in Isabella before moving to Chisholm. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force until 1955.  On June 27, 1964, Frank was united in marriage in Hibbing to Irene Urdahl.    Frank was employed by the W.S. Moore Mining, Gleneagles Garment Factory and Eveleth Mines, retiring in 1992.  He was a member of the Chisholm Moose Club, the American Legion, the Chisholm VFW, the Hibbing Elks, and Blessed Sacrament Church. Frank enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and good times with a wide circle of friends. He also loved to dance and listen to Slovenian polka music.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Irene, son Richard and his wife Jennifer, the apples of his eye, granddaughters Maja and Chloe of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and sisters-in-law Margaret Samec, Hazel (Gaylen) Kehoe, Mary (Alvin) DeWall, and Evelyn (Mike) Levchak, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.

He was preceded in death by parents Frank and Mary, and brother Ronald (Margaret) Samec.

Frank's family sincerely thanks the staff at Evergreen Terrace and Essentia Health for their compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time.  Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the Mid Range Honor Guard.   Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association of Duluth.
