Frank Albert Sandstedt
Frank A. Sandstedt, 90, of Hibbing passed away peacefully on Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. He was born on May 21, 1922 to Joseph and Aksa Sandstedt in Brimson, MN. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross along with the Presidential Unit Citation, the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign, and the WWII Victory Medal while serving as a radio operator and a ball turret gunner.
Frank was an in demand drummer for many popular area old time bands during most of his life. He was employed as the circulation manager for the Hibbing Daily Tribune and the Minneapolis Star Tribune. During his final years at Guardian Angels, Frank inspired many of those around him with his positive attitude and zest for living.
He is survived by his sister, Ina Frazier, children; Candy (Boris) Babich, Sherry Fiskewold, Steve Sandstedt, Beth Sandstedt, and Becky Sandstedt, his grandchildren; Jesse (Amber) Babich, Ryan Fiskewold, Tiffany (Shane) Determan, and Ashley (Dan) Remus, his great-grandchildren, Tristen, Brielle, and Brynn Babich, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Sandstedt, and daughter, Cynthia.
A celebration of life will be held for Frank at 2:00pm, Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Guardian Angels Health and Rehbilitation Chapel in Hibbing. A reception in his honor will immediately follow the service at Guardian Angels on Thursday. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
