Frieda M. Yoder

On December 28, 2016, Frieda Mae Yoder, age 86, died at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota. She was born on August 9, 1930 to Levi Schrock and Ida Mae (Miller) Schrock of Goshen, Indiana.
In 1946, at the age of 16, Frieda received Christ as Lord and Savior, was baptized, and joined the East Clinton Amish Church of rural Goshen, Indiana. Later she and her future husband changed their membership to the Conservative Mennonite Church.
On July 23, 1949, she married Samuel Yoder. Together they enjoyed 67 years of marriage until his recent death on
September 2
, of this same year.
She and Samuel lived in the Goshen, Indiana area the first 28 years of their lives and then in 1959 moved to Hayward, Wisconsin to assist in the mission work that had been established there. Shortly following that move Samuel was ordained and together they served faithfully in various conservative Mennonite Churches and communities, including Hayward, Wisconsin; Blooming Prairie, Minnesota and Washington, Indiana. Throughout the next 38 years she filled the role as loved and faithful wife and companion and was a very busy mother of eight. She was a gracious hostess and worked endlessly within her church and community wherever they lived in untitled, unpaid, and unlauded roles such as children's and family ministries in church and later served in the capacity of bible school cook, young women's matron and young women's counselor at Maranatha Bible School, and later as women's marriage counselor at Fresh Start.
Sam and Frieda retired to northern Minnesota in the spring of 1999 and have lived in the Nashwauk area since then.
She will always be remembered for her love of a good prank and her tireless willingness to serve and help others. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters and six sons: daughter Naomi, married to Dennis Witmer of Farmington, New Mexico; son Nevin, married to Wanda (Martin) of Orange Walk, Belize in Central America; daughter Doris, married to Jason Yoder of Nashwauk, Minnesota; son Nathan married to Patti (Stutzman) of Hayward, Wisconsin; son Samuel, known as Jim, married to Diane (Peachy)
of Hayward, Wisconsin; son Jerry married to Trenda (Skrivseth) of Nashwauk, Minnesota; son Ned married to Tammy (Chipman) of Hayward, Wisconsin; son Eric married to Bonnie (Yoder) of Westminster, South Carolina. He has 30 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters: Christena (Orville) Schrock of Ligonier, Indiana and Naomi (Mervin) Mast of Goshen, Indiana.
Preceding her in death is her husband Samuel M Yoder and her parents, Levi and Ida Mae Schrock, 10 siblings, Leroy, LydiaAnn, Nettie, Stanley, MaryEllen, Clifford, LeviJr, Mildred, Darlene, and Leon, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2016 in the Nashwauk Alliance Church at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be in the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the church and will continue on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Nashwauk Cemetery.
