Gary H. Osborne
March 1, 1950 February 11, 2024
Gary "Ozzie" Osborne passed away at home on February 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born in Hibbing, Minnesota, on March 1, 1950, to his parents, Harold and June Osborne.
Gary was married to the love of his life, Michele (Thiel) Osborne, for 25 years. He was enjoying retirement after working as an accountant at Hibbing Taconite for 28 years. Gary was an active member of the Mesaba Country Club and a member of the Hibbing Elks Lodge. In 1968, Gary was crowned as the Hibbing High School Homecoming King.
Gary was known for his witty sense of humor ("Hey, sports fans!") and faithfully served as his friends' personal meteorologist. For many years, he enjoyed entertaining Michele's "daycare kids."
Gary was a magician of a hockey player, a skilled winger for Hibbing High School, the Hibbing Flyers, and Colorado College. During his playing time with the Flyers, Gary was on the first U.S. Junior All-American hockey team and was invited to New York City for the national awards ceremony. Hall of Famer Bobby Hull was privileged to have dinner with him.
He also enjoyed golf and tennis, and he was good at both. Not only could he hit a backhand slice, but he could also effortlessly juggle four or five tennis balls at a time.
Gary felt great satisfaction over a well-manicured lawn, especially from his John Deere mower. He spent many hours woodworking in his "Mort Building," making bookshelves, cabinets, "gadgets," and sandboxes for his beloved great-grandkids. And, of course, he loved to spend time "working" at Janet Lake and could still waterski at the age of 71.
Gary is survived by his wife Michele Osborne, Hibbing, three children, Adam (Nicole) Osborne, Hibbing, Kelly (Bob) DeAngelo, Raleigh, NC, and Nick (Beth) Tepovich, Hibbing, MN, sister, Gail (Bruce) Bonicatto, Eveleth, MN, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and June (Isaacson) Osborne.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Hibbing Memorial Building Dining Room east entrance (400 E 23rd Street) from 1:00-4:00 PM (drop-in). All who knew and loved him are invited to attend.
He will be deeply missed and will be forever remembered in our hearts. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing, MN.
