George Basarich
It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of George Basarich. George, who was born in and lived most of his life in Hibbing, Minnesota, passed on November 9th in St Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. He was born March 3, 1926, the son of Peter and Francis Basarich. George is remembered by his family as having a tender heart used to its fullest potential right to the end. George was proud to have served in the Coast Guard during World War II. When he returned to Hibbing, he became reacquainted with and then married Ann Sikich in Hibbing on Sept. 8, 1951. George’s career was rooted in the construction industry. He used his artistic talents as a carpenter, home builder, and general contractor in Hibbing and regionally throughout Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann; his children: Georgiana (Joe) Gabardi of Pengilly, Richard (Betty) Basarich of Gurnee, IL and Roger Basarich of Duluth; a sister Helen Sundquist of Mpls, MN; a brother, Nick Basarich, of Hibbing; his grandchildren: Derek (JeriAnn) Gabardi, Joseph (Sarah) Gabardi, Kyle Basarich, Craig Basarich and George Basarich; and 5 great grandchildren: Gracie, Sam, Jack, Joey and Jenna Gabardi. He was preceded in death by his parents, by 4 brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing. The Rev. Brian Lederer will officiate. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. The family asks that no flowers be sent. Instead donations can be made to the American Heart Assoc.
