George Joseph Kubena

George J. Kubena, 96, Grove, OK died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Integris Grove Hospital in Grove, OK.  He was born on December 6, 1920 to Frank and Frances (Zetocha) Kubena in Valparaiso, NE.  After high school, George proudly served his country during WWII.  He was with the U.S. A.A.F., serving from December 21, 1941-December 3, 1945 with 38 months overseas in the European Theatre of Operations.  George also served his country during the Korean Conflict, serving from March 11, 1951-June 25, 1952 stateside with the Army Air Corps, and later with the U. S. Air Force.  After the war, he was employed as a truck and trailer body repairman with Firestone.  He was a longtime resident of Hibbing.  He was a member of the Hibbing Catholic Community, the V. F. W. Post 8510 of Hibbing, and the Masonic Lodge/Shriners.  He was a people lover and enjoyed traveling as his favorite pastime.

He is survived by his son, Michael (Connie) Kubena, Grove, OK, daughter, Kathryn (Clint )
Frost, Lakeside, AZ, three sisters, Frances Butchert, Hibbing, Marion Prebich, Hibbing, and Lillian Larva, Hibbing, five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ernest, Raymond, and Jerry Kubena, and his sister, Cecilia.

Funeral services for George will be 11:00am, Friday, December 16, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church on Friday.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
