George W. Leppanen

George W. Leppanen, 71, Buhl, passed away at his home on Tuesday September 25, 2018.  He was born December 21, 1946 to Einer and Margaret (Zozgornik) in Grand Rapids, MN. He graduated from Greenway High School in 1964.  George enlisted in the US Navy in 1965 and served on the USS Passumpsic during the Vietnam War.  He worked as a millwright for United States Steel-Minntac.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family and his dedication to his Christian beliefs.

He was preceded in death by his father Einer G. Leppanen and his brother-in-law Ronald Peterson. George is survived by his mother Margaret Leppanen, Nashwauk, brother Thomas Leppanen, Nashwauk, and sister Linda Peterson, Grand Rapids, nephews, Carey (Gidget) Peterson, Eveleth, Christopher (Cheryl) Peterson, Lincoln, Neb., Stephen Peterson, Minneapolis, Jason (Cresta) Peterson, Lincoln, Neb., niece Rebecca (Joe) Clafton, Grand Rapids, 14 grandnieces and nephews and 1 great-grandniece.  Private family services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home Hibbing.
