George Mihelich
George Mihelich, 90, Hibbing, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in Mission Viejo, CA. George was born in Leetonia, MN on July 21, 1923, to George and Mary (Gregorich) Mihelich. He graduated from Hibbing High School and had worked at General Diesel for forty years. George and Edna Hovey were united in marriage on Feb. 2, 1952, in Hibbing. He was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. George was someone who could fix almost anything. He enjoyed tinkering with electric motors, building furniture and wood carving. He loved fishing and playing golf.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandy (Rodney) Pakkala, of Ladera Ranch, CA; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Peter) Eichten of Minneapolis and Jodie (Simone) Cosco of Fillmore, CA; five great-grandchildren: Tobias, Corinne, Luisa, Sophia, and Isabella; a brother, Milan Mihelich, of Bemidji; two sisters, Mary (Dwight) Wherland of Hibbing and Florence Menard of Minneapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, in 2001; by his parents; and by siblings Rudy Mihelich and Anne Boldt.
Visitation will be Friday April 4, 2014, at Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, from 10 AM until 11:45 AM.
