George M. Stone
George M. Stone’s life journey ended Nov. 27, 2013, at the Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing. He was a lifelong resident of Hibbing, born June 18, 1931. He was a life member of the First Lutheran Church and graduated from the Hibbing High School in 1949. George very proudly served four years in the US Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea. He was a member of the VFW Post 8510 and it’s Honor Guard, the Am Vets Post 12 and the Loyal Order of Moose. George’s great loves included his children and grandchildren, along with spending time outdoors hunting or fishing. He was a member, and volunteered his time with Ducks Unlimited and the Minnesota Deer Hunter’s Assoc. Many knew him through the 31 years he spent working at the Hibbing Public Utilities.
He is survived by Joyce Stone, daughters: Lynn Stone of Apple Valley, MN, Nancy (Mark Nyffeler) Stone of White Bear Lake, MN and Julie (Steven) Bartek of Chisholm, MN, grandchildren: Megan Showalter, Jaren Jagaraj, Chella Jagaraj, Adam Tretsven, Alex Tretsven, Stephanie Bartek and Tyler Bartek, great grandchildren: Haley, Nicholas, Chloe and Camille, his brother Richard (Marilyn) Stone of Hibbing and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ida and Henry Stone, a sister Marie and a brother Donald. The family would like to extend many thanks to everyone, especially North Star Hospice, the Dialysis Unit and his friends at his home at the Lee Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday in the First Lutheran Church, Hibbing. The Rev. Larry Quanbeck will officiate. Visitation will be in the church, Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial with military honors will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.
