Gertrude Veronica Haidos

Gertrude V. Haidos, 94, Hibbing, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids.  She was born in Hibbing on Jan. 11, 1921, to Matt and Margaret (Prijatel) Kochevar.  Gertrude graduated from Hibbing High School in 1938, and had worked as a cook at the Androy Hotel and later at the Delvic Café, where she met her future husband, Nick.  She married Nick Haidos on March 21, 1948, and together they worked at the L&B Café until 1967.  Gertrude was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  She liked reading, playing cards and scrabble, cooking and baking, trying out new recipes, and watching the Minnesota Twins.  She was strong willed lady of great religious faith.

Gertrude is survived by her son, Tom Haidos, Hibbing; two grandsons, John and Nick; a sister, Molly; and by many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick; by her parents; by stepchildren George Haidos and Thana Lopac; by four brothers:  Matt, John, Jack, and Louis Kochevar; and by two sisters, Margaret Kochevar and Lillian Serra.

Visitation will be Tuesday November 17, 2015, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing, from 10 M until the 11 AM funeral service.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.  To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com .
