Gertrude “Buddie” Ryan, 97, Hibbing, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing, MN.
Gertrude was born November 4, 1916, in Minneapolis, MN to John and Martha Stanley.  She married Dean L. Greaton, DDS, on Oct. 25, 1940, and they had two children, Dean Jr. “Tony” and Gretchen.  Following the death of Dean in October 1968, Gertrude married Russell Ryan on December 29, 1973,until his death on February 10, 2006.
She was a devoted wife and fortunate to have two wonderful marriages.  She enjoyed life to the fullest and had many travel adventures, summers at the lake and family time.  Her family greatly appreciates the loving care she received at the Guardian Angels facility during the past six years.
She is survived by children Dean “Tony” (Bette Jo) Greaton, Jr. of Hibbing and Gretchen (Bruce) Coleman of Duluth; a step-daughter, Bridget (Scott) Strudwick of Esko, MN; daughters-in-law Nancy Ryan of North Branch, MN and Colleen Ryan of Deephaven, MN; a sister-in-law, Jean Rothstein, of Hopkins, MN; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.  Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; by husbands Dean Greaton and Russell Ryan; a sister, Margaret Nolan; and step-children James, Michael, Peter, Timothy, Tracey, Patricia Jean, and Jill.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Church, 1924 East 5th Avenue, Hibbing, MN.  Visitation will be 10—11 AM in the church on Thursday.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.  Memorials may be made to Assumption School, Hibbing, MN or the Alzheimer’s Association of Minnesota.   Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.   To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com.
