Gladys Burns

November 8, 1924 — October 28, 2015

Gladys T. Burns, 90, lifelong Nashwauk resident, died Wednesday, October 28 , 2015, at Bigfork Valley Hospital.  She was born in Duluth to Stewart E. and Margaret R. (Beck) Vaughan on November 8 , 1924.  She had been employed as a bookkeeper at Johnson Chevrolet and Burns TCS.  Gladys organized the Flu Shot drive for the elderly in Nashwauk, coordinated defensive driving courses for the elderly and Meals on Wheels in Nashwauk, and volunteered knitted goods for the Itasca County Elder Circle.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, Golden Age Club, Nashwauk American Legion Auxiliary, and Nashwauk United Methodist Church.
Gladys is survived by her son, Ernest (Kathleen) Burns, Nashwauk; a sister, Margaret “Peg” (Bob) McElroy, Paradise, CA; 4 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burns, Sr.; children Robert Burns, Jr., and Betty Lou Anderson; her parents; and sisters Patricia Specht and Barbara Yunker.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, on

Monday, November 2 , 2015, in Nashwauk Methodist Church with the Rev. Kris Geer officiating. Visitation will be in the church for one hour before the service. Burial will be in Nashwauk Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Nashwauk Methodist Church in memory of Gladys.
