Harley D. Getting
Harley D. Getting, 67, Janet Lake, died Monday, February 25, 2013, at Fairview University Medical Center—Mesabi, Hibbing. He was born on January 10, 1946, in Eldora, IA to Clarence and Lamka Getting. Harley had a love of animals and the outdoors that began when he was a boy and continued throughout his life. He was united in marriage to Jeri Schoon on January 27, 1967, in Grundy Center, IA. Harley’s love of the lakes and woods led them to settle in Northern Minnesota on Janet Lake in 1972. He worked for Electrolux Corp. until 1978, and had started his own business, Edgewater Taxidermy, which became his full time occupation. His son, Galen, joined him at Edgewater in 1994, and continues the family business to this day. Harley enjoyed hunting and fishing and could be found in the evening fishing from his dock or his boat with his lab at his side. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing.
Harley is survived by his wife, Jeri, of Janet Lake; two children: Galen (Crystal) Getting of Hibbing and Kate (Walter) John of Brooklyn Park, MN; six grandchildren: Dane Getting, Lily Getting, Theo John, Alex John, Mary John, and Izzy John; a brother-in-law, Paul (Linda) Schoon of Marshalltown, IA; a nephew, Mike (Christina) Holeman; two nieces, Kellie (Kevin) Szenderski and Angela (Brian) Wood; and by his loyal companion, Max his black lab. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Friday, March 1, 2013, in Wesley United Methodist Church from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.
