Helen E. Fairchild, 90, Hibbing, died Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Guardian Angels Health Care Center, Hibbing.  She was born in Sherwood, ND on August 9, 1923, to Henry and Matilda (Stumpf) Keller.  Helen married the love of her life, Stephen Fairchild, on Sept. 26, 1941 in Crookston, MN and following Stephen’s military service, they made their home in Hibbing.  She enjoyed catering, crocheting, and cooking for her friends and family, especially when the family gathered at the farm for the holidays.  Helen spent many years as a 4-H club leader.   She looked forward to the St. Louis County Fair where she made many memories while in charge of the children’s and rabbit barns, as well as being a fair exhibitor.  Helen was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Maple Hill Community Club.
She is survived by eight children:  Mary (Ted) Banal of Brooklyn Park, Wayne (Julie) Fairchild of Duluth, MN, James (Sharon) Fairchild of Hibbing, John (Joanne) Fairchild of Hibbing, Gary (Leila) Fairchild of Cohasset, MN, Dale (Colleen) Fairchild of Iron, MN, Vicki (Gary) Krampotich of Kelly Lake, and Lisa (Larry) Taylor of Hibbing;; 22 grandchildren:  Tony, Ted, Melanie, Mark, Rebecca, Joan, Amy, Tara, Jason, Kimberly, Angela, Kelly, Gery, Rachel, Amber, Kami, Kyle, Kristi, Stephen, Diane, Stephen, and Kaylee; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen, in 1990; by an infant daughter, Diane; 3 grandchildren; her parents; a sister, Leona Wilkens; and brothers Godfrey, Otto, Henry, Leo, and Raymond Keller.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing, from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.  To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com.
