Helen M. Grahek
Helen M. Grahek, 88, Hibbing, formerly of Keewatin passed away on Monday January 7, 2019 at Guardian Angels with her family by her side. She was born on April 6, 1930 in Altoona, Penn. to Euda Mae Long. She graduated from Altoona High School in 1948. After graduation she went to work for her congressman in Washington DC. While there she met her husband Rudy who she married on February 27, 1954. Helen and Rudy moved to Keewatin where they raised their family. She was very involved in the city, she worked as the Water and Light Clerk until her retirement. Helen served on the city Council, Police Commission, the American Legion Auxiliary, and was very active with St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keewatin. She just recently passed on the presidency of the Women’s Auxiliary and after becoming a resident of Guardian Angels, they had their meetings there so she was able to attend.
Helen is survived by her children, John (Marcia) Grahek and Donna (Gary) Simonson both of Hibbing, grandchildren, Melissa (Andy) Fisher, Brian (Emily) Simonson, Travis (Gabby) Grahek, and Laicee Grahek, 2 great-grandchildren who had a special place in her heart, Easton and Blake Fisher, her sister, Diana Hite, Altoona, Penn., sister-in-law Loraine Curto, Melrose, Minn., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Rudy on September 12, 2010, her mother and father, brother, Jimmy Wolf, brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Rosalind Oliva and brother-in-law James Curto.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Friday January 11, 2018 in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Beau Braun celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be in church one hour before Mass. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Guardian Angels who took such great care of her while a resident for the past 20 months.
