Helen Theresa Turk, 87, Hibbing, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Spectrum Health Care in Ely.  She was born on April 23, 1926, in Webb Location to John and Helen (Mikolich) Turk.  A 1944 graduate of Hibbing High School, Helen attended Hibbing Community College and received her degree from the College of St. Scholastica in 1948.  She worked as a medical technologist at Hibbing General Hospital for many years.  Her life touched many people, young and old.  She was an avid golfer as well as a swimmer.  She earned two 100 mile awards doing lengths at the local pool and swam well into her seventies.  She greatly enjoyed bridge and entered many tournaments, attaining the status of Life Master from the American Contract Bridge League.  Helen loved flower gardening, bird feeding and bird watching as well as knitting and stitchery.  She also enjoyed travel.  She was an active volunteer for Range Helping Hands, Friends of the Library, Mine View Tourist Center, and she served funeral lunches at Blessed Sacrament Church.  She loved bocce with the Elks Ladies Club and greatly enjoyed the company of her “Opera Group,” all former health care workers with whom she frequently traveled.
She is survived by her much loved nieces and nephews:  John E. (Sally) Turk of Tower, MN, Jean (Ron) Turk Johnson of Mankato, MN, Mary Beth (Chet) Turk Bergstrom of Green Bay, WI, Rebecca (Ken) Turk Martin of Appleton, WI, Ann Marie (Bruce) Turk Maylath of Fargo, ND, and Joseph (Ida) Turk of Pasadena, CA.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Henry E. Turk and Frank Turk.
Visitation will be Tuesday July 30, 2013, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church from 10—11 AM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Treatment & Research Ramsey Foundation, 640 Jackson St. Saint Paul, MN 55101.  To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.doughertyofhibbing.com.
