Howard Harold Yahrmatter
Howard H. Yahrmatter, 82, longtime resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at home with his family by his side. He was born on July 13, 1934 to Earl and Willetta (LaMere) Yahrmatter in Hibbing. Howard was a Hibbing High School graduate with the class of 1952. After graduation he proudly served his country from 1953-1957 in the U.S. Navy. Upon Honorable Discharge, Howard attended Junior College. Howard and Joann (Westurn) Yahrmatter then married on April 30, 1960 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing. They moved to California in January of 1961 and raised their children. Howard was employed as an airline maintenance mechanic at the Oakland Airport with various airlines throughout his career, most recently with Evergreen Airlines. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, the Hibbing Elks Lodge, and VFW Post 8510 of Hibbing. Howard loved tinkering and fixing things, gardening, caring for birds and animals, fishing and being at the lake and earlier in life coaching little league.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Yahrmatter of Hibbing, daughter, Jonette (Curtis) Herbel, Shakopee, MN, son Dale (Jeannie) Yahrmatter, Lithia, FL, sister, Carol (Dennis) Pearce, Dublin, CA, four grandchildren, Ryan Herbel, Benton Herbel, both of Shakopee, MN, and Devin Yahrmatter and Deagan Yahrmatter, both of Lithia, FL, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and step-father, Leonard Jaglowski.
Funeral services for Howard will be January 3 rd at 11am. The Rev. Fr. Nick Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at Dougherty Funeral Home. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
