Irene Marie Iammatteo

Irene Marie Iammatteo (85), a lifelong resident of Hibbing, peacefully passed away on November 27, 2016, at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth Minnesota. Born on August 21, 1931, to Otto and Mable Nehring, she was the youngest and last survivor of 6 children: Harold (Elsie), Kenneth (Fran), Alfred (Connie), Violet (James), and Edna (Wally). She met her sweetheart and husband, Patric Iammatteo of Keewatin, Minnesota, in Kansas City while he was attending the Kansas City University School of Medicine. Together, they raised five children: Carol (Bill) Iammatteo-Code of Mystic Iowa, Patricia (Randal) Iammatteo of Dayton Maryland, James (Elizabeth) Iammatteo of Keewatin Minnesota, Monica Iammatteo of St. Paul Minnesota, and Nicole (David) Lindstrom of Rosemount Minnesota.  She enjoyed her three granddaughters (Teresa, Cynthia, and Tessa) and two grandsons (Kaden and Drew).
Early on Irene worked as the assistant to the principal at the Lincoln School; later, she played a pivotal role in running the business portion of her husband’s medical practice. She enjoyed participating in Women’s Club and bowling league, and she loved blueberry picking, baking, and watching hockey games.  She was a huge animal lover and enjoyed listening to public radio. Thanks to her five busy children, she was an expert in stain removal and cleaning techniques. Heloise could have learned a hint or two from Irene! The rest of her family enjoyed camping, but she hated it and preferred to stay in the comforts of her own home.
She is survived by her husband, children and grandchildren.  She is loved and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in memory of Irene Iammatteo to The Solvay Hospice House ℅ Miller Dwan Foundation, 801 Baylis Street, Duluth, MN  55118.

Per Irene’s request there will be a private funeral service held at a later date.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
