Iva M. Nelson
Iva M. Nelson, 98, Angora, MN, died Monday, March 4, 2013 in Hibbing. She was born July 8, 1914in Duxby, MN to George and Essie Hamm. She grew up in Sandstone, MN. On Aug. 24, 1932 she married Emil Nelson in Mora, MN at the county fair in front of 3000 people. She and Emil moved to Kelly Lake in 1937 and then to Angora in 1958. She had been the clerk for Sturgeon Township for many years. On the family farm, Iva tended to the cattle, sheep and chickens all the while raising her children and watching over many other children. She was also known for the many quilts, afghans and potholders she made for her family and others.
She is survived by her sons George (Nancy) and Norman Nelson, both of Hibbing, her sisters: Vivian Johnson of Inver Grove Heights, MN and Ruth (Bob) Putnam of Aitkin, MN, 13 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Emil in 1966, 2 sons Emil LaVerne in 1966 and Neil in 2002, her parents and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 in the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. Pallbearers are her grandchildren Clinton, Craig, Curtis, Corrie, Douglas and Bruce Nelson.
