Jack A. Spence, 75, left this life with his loving family by his side on May 10, 2024. He was born Sept. 20, 1948 to Jack and Lucille (Bunetto) Spence in Ft. Riley, KS. Later, Lucille married James Dockter and they moved their family to Hibbing. After graduating from HHS in 1966, Jack proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War as an Engineer Equipment Mechanic. After his service, he returned home to marry the love of his life, Susan Spadaccini and they happily raised their family together until Susan’s passing in 2015. He worked as a heavy equipment operator at Hibbing Taconite for over 30 years. A true “Jack of All Trades” he could fix anything with what he had on hand. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, UTVing, Harley rides, crusin in his Fairlane “Susie Darlin”, and keeping his flower garden looking beautiful.
He is survived by his children, Gina (Todd) Olson, Hibbing, Lisa (Jess) Cooley, Mt. Iron, MN, and Shane (Jamie) Spence, Hibbing, sister, Susan (Ron) Hart, Hibbing, five grandchildren, Kade (Sophie) Olson, Ava Olson, Brooklyn Cooley, Taylor Spence, Jared Spence, and great-grandson Declan, along with his nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Susan, parents, Lucille and James Dockter, and his brother, Michael “Mikey” Dockter.
Graveside services for Jack and Susan, will be laid to rest together, will be at 11:00am, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Military Honors will be accorded by the Mid-Range Honor Guard. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
