James Earl “Jimmy” Extrum
James Earl “Jimmy” Extrum, 71, Hibbing died Monday, February 4, 2019, at St.
Lukes Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born in Hibbing on October 27, 1947, to Earl and
Mary (McCauley) Extrum. Upon graduation from Hibbing High School and Hibbing
Community College, Jim proudly served his country in Vietnam with the United States
Air Force. Jim was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Minnesota
Vikings, the Minnesota Twins, and the UMD Bulldogs. He counts fishing and playing
cribbage as his favorite pastimes. He truly loved his family. And dear to his heart were
his two dogs, Tressa and China.
He is survived by his two sisters, Joanne (John) Baratto, Hibbing and Judy (Larry)
Clarkson, Augusta, GA, brother-in-law, David Schwartzkoph, Rochester, MN, and 12
nieces and nephews, Susan Perunovich, Cheryl Jeske, Lisa Riley, Lynn Torrel, Leslie
Hewitt, Debra Erar, Robert Martin, Michael Martin, Thomas Martin, Daniel Waseleski,
Gena Bonitatibus and Tara Tsikerdanos.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mary (McCauley) Extrum,
sister, Jean Martin, and nephew, Jeffrey Baratto.
Per Jim's request there will be private services for Jim at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. His family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at Greenview, Heritage Manor in Chisholm, Cheryl Elj, Care Coordinator, and the Veteran's Administration for providing wonderful care to Jim. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
