James Clifford Ylatupa
James C. Ylatupa, 79, Hibbing, died Friday, May 22, 2015, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Chisholm. He was born July 11, 1935, in Hibbing to Ennu and Eleanor Ylatupa. James graduated from Hibbing High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a welder at Erie Mining Company and retired from Hibbing Taconite. He was a member of Lawrence Lake Legion, VFW Post 8510, Hibbing, and United Steelworkers Local 2705. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing.
He is survived by three daughters: Robin Ylatupa of Chisholm, Diane (Keith) Severson of Bloomington, and Mary Jo (Brian) Stolp of Nashwauk; five grandchildren: Jeremiah Caroon, Michael (Sonja Umbleby) Caroon, Nicole (Andy) Paasch, Travis (Tory Hulst-Perry) Stolp, and Kyle Severson; by two sisters, Karen (Harry) Benson of Hibbing and Carol (Robert) Weik of Scottsdale, AZ; a brother, William (Fran) Ylatupa of Silver Bay; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; by a sister, Irene Laakso; by a brother, Wallace Ylatupa; and by a step-son, Terry Blue.
