James (Waclaw) Anthony Cackoski
James (Waclaw) Anthony Cackoski, 88, Hibbing, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Chisholm, MN after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 28, 1925, in Chisholm, MN to Michael and Alexandra (Wojna) Cackoski. He was the eighth of ten children. James married the love of his life, Anna Marie Polingo, on May 14, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Shooks, MN. James graduated from Chisholm High School, proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II, and attended Dunwoody Technical Institute in Minneapolis, MN. James was a sixty four year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and was a journeyman for several electrical businesses on the Iron Range. He was a kind, generous, and hardworking man who shared his time and talents helping others; an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish; he also enjoyed gardening, agate collecting, and picking blueberries. James enjoyed many hours of his retirement creating beautiful woodcarvings, which he so dearly loved to share with all. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, and was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle.
His memory will live on in our hearts until we meet again for eternity.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Anna; a brother, Henry “Hank” Cackoski; sons Andrew (Beverly) Cackoski, Kenneth (Bonnie) Cackoski, and Ronald (Carol) Cackoski; a daughter, Valerie (Thomas) Potocnik; seven grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents; by an infant daughter, Stephanie; and eight siblings: Genevieve Briski/Pernat, Mary Bradach, John Cackoski, Ann Edman, Francis “Frank” Cackoski, Chester Cackoski, Helen Sampson, and Edward Cackoski.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held with family at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing. Rev. Fr. Brian Lederer will celebrate the Mass.
