Jane Degnan
Jane Degnan, 83, Hibbing, died Wed. July 19, 2017 in the Guardian Angels Health Care Center, Hibbing. She was born Sept. 30, 1933 in Milwaukee, WI, to James and Anne (Vercellini) Gandsey. When Jane’s father passed away at an early age, the family returned to Hibbing where Jane graduated in 1951 from Hibbing High School. She had worked at Herberger’s in Hibbing and in 1952, married Pat Degnan. They started a family shortly after their marriage and her life revolved around taking care of the 7 children she loved. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends and spending time with family on Lake Pokegama where she always created fantastic meals. Her time spent
with her sewing and bridge clubs fostered life long friendships. As the family grew, Jane loved holding and strolling her grandbabies, making O’Henry bars and baking chocolate chip cookies with them. She was always at their school activities, birthday parties and all of their rites of passage.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Pat, her children: Shan (Tom) Peluso of Grand Rapids, MN, Karey Degnan of Hibbing, Tim (Susan) Degnan of Pengilly, MN, Kelle (Jeff Dougherty) Degnan of Hibbing, Michael (Beth) Degnan of Side Lake, MN and Mary (Joe) Iozzo also of Side Lake, 2 brothers Steve (Marnie) Gandsey and Tom Gandsey, a sister Jean (Roger) Wherland, sisters in law Joyce Gandsey and Renna Webster, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Pat, a brother Pete Gandsey and a sister Annette Raukar. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff at Guardian Angels for the special care they gave Jane.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2017 in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing. Visitation will be in the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, Sunday, July 23, from 4 to 6 p.m. and will continue in the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery Hibbing. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 7900 W. 78th St., Ste100, Minneapolis, MN 55439.
