Jean Marie Sogard
Jean M. Sogard, 80, longtime resident of Hibbing, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Cornerstone Villa in Buhl, MN. She was born on September 12, 1934, to Ernest and Agnes (Lundgren) Thiede in Mohall, ND. Coming from North Dakota, Jean resided in her earlier years in Bemidji, MN, graduating from Bemidji High School. She married Warren Sogard on November 22, 1953, in Bemidji and moved to Hibbing. Jean held various positions throughout her lifetime. She was first employed with Bemidji Motors. Then she managed a restaurant at Woolco and the jewelry department, and later she was a homeroom teacher in Hibbing at Lincoln Junior High School. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing where she served as president of U.M.W., was a member of the pasty crew, served as the church treasurer for many years, and was a founding member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Jean was also a member of the American Legion Post 222 Ladies Auxiliary and she enjoyed baking, and knitting, especially afghans, which she would donate to the Salvation Army.
She is survived by her three children: Dennis Sogard, Brooklyn Park, MN, Thomas (Jean) Sogard, Savage, MN, and Catherine (Bruce) Hartenstein, Hibbing; her three grandchildren: Amy (Edward Franklin) Sogard, Hannah Sogard, and Emma Sogard; three great-grandchildren: Madisyn Franklin, Vincent Franklin, and Jaeden Sogard-Deutsch; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Agnes, and her husband Warren Sogard in 2012.
Funeral services for Jean will be held at 2:PM, Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Terry Tilton will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
