Jean Specht, 75, of Side Lake, MN, peacefully passed away with her family at her side on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Heritage Manor in Chisholm, MN. Jean was born in Grand Rapids, MN, on April 13, 1948, to Anthony and Iris (Clusiau) Mehelich and grew up in Coleraine, MN, graduating from Greenway High School with the class of 1966. After high school, she earned her bachelor's degree from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN and finally married the boy she met in the seventh grade and the love of her life, Eugene Specht, in 1969. Jean and Gene were true partners in life and together raised two loving sons, Jason and Matt, during their nearly 55 year marriage. She worked for 26 years as a St. Louis County probation officer and was very highly respected in the criminal justice system. Jean was an incredibly gifted musician and songwriter who brought so much joy to those who were able to see her perform. She had an amazing sense of humor that always made everyone around her laugh and feel welcomed. Jean loved her friends and family so much and will be dearly missed by them all.
She is survived by her husband Gene Specht, sons Jason Specht and Matt (CJ) Specht, siblings Thomas (Fran) Mehelich and Jody (Art) Wolffe, sister-in-law Lynn Mehelich, grandkids Jon Specht, Charlie Specht and Anthony Specht and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Bill Mehelich.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Hibbing, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass starting at 10:00 AM. Fr. Daniel Weiske will officiate the services. Interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery outside of Duluth at a later date.
