Jeanne DeGrace Sullivan

Jeanne DeGrace Sullivan passed away peacefully at Diamond Willow in Mountain Iron on Friday, August 31, 2018.  She was born to Frances and Raymond Stokes Sr. on September 13, 1926 in Hibbing, MN.

She graduated from Assumption School and Hibbing High School.  After high school she worked for Horn Electric and Vera’s Smart Shop, where she met Patrick DeGrace who she later married; together they had two children.  After Patrick’s death in 1973, Jeanne went to work at Hibbing High School for 14 years in the high school office.  After her retirement, she remarried Paul Sullivan.  She was a member of the Hibbing Curling Club where she won many local, state and national bonspiels.  She was a member of the Hibbing Country Club and continued her membership after her husband died.  She was also a lifetime member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish.

Jeanne is survived by her son Patrick II (Pam) DeGrace, daughter Gina DeGrace, her sister, Kaye (David) Vincent and Sister-in-law, Dolly Stepan. Additionally, she is survived by three grandchildren, Jennifer (Beth), Michael and Alexandria, by two great-grandchildren, Annaliese and Carter, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Raymond, husbands, Patrick DeGrace and Paul Sullivan, brother Raymond Stokes Jr., and sisters, Alyce (Ray) Richards, and Beatrice (Dan) Giles.

The family would like to thank Marcia Grahek R.N., the Lee Center staff and its residents (especially Marion), Hospice, and Diamond Willow for their concern and excellent care for Jeanne.  Jeanne’s family would also like to express a sincere thank you to Dr. Amy Hilde-Philips for the exceptional care given to Jeanne over the years.

Funeral services for Jeanne will be 11:00 am, Friday, September 7, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Friday.  Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish in Hibbing or may be made to the donor’s choice.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
