Jerome Bischoff

Jerome Steven Bischoff, 50, of Hibbing, passed away unexpectedly in his home on the morning before Thanksgiving Day.  Jerry left behind a large and loving family, as well as numerous close friends who were like family to him.  Survivors include his son, Jonathon Louis Benepe Bischoff of Pengilly; longtime sweetheart, Terri Draves of Hibbing; mother, Grace Bischoff, and her partner Philip Boness of Virginia; two brothers: Bernard Joe Bischoff of Duluth, and Joel Russ Bischoff of New York City; seven sisters: Gail Frances Goettsch of Eagan; Anita Marie Renzetti of San Rafael, California; Nancy Kay Bischoff of Bellingham, Washington; Mari Lynette Evans of St. Paul; LeAnn Grace Bischoff of Oakland, California; Tara Louise Bischoff of St. Paul; and Maila Rae Bischoff of Anchorage, Alaska.  His brothers-and sisters- in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles cherished his presence at family gatherings.  Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Bernard John Bischoff of Hibbing. Jerry graduated in 1987 from Hibbing High School, where on occasion he outshone several more studious classmates and siblings.  He was a member of the HHS Math Team.  Jerry was proud to have served in the United States Navy.  Rare in these times, Jerry was a jack-of-all-trades.  He had a working knowledge of Greek cuisine, nursing, house painting, manufacturing, construction, logging, and cultivating pumpkins along with his Grandma Agnes Barkis’ pole beans.  For several years Jerry worked as a laborer at Irathane Systems in Hibbing.  He was a skilled and generous cook, fisherman, and hunter.  He was exceptionally good company for taking a walk, catching up by phone, or visiting over coffee.  Jerry’s warmth, kindness and humor touched many people’s lives.  His bright smile could make bumping into you seem like the highlight of his day.  He had a fine singing voice, which will be missed at Christmas carol singalongs.  Jerry’s bear hugs will be missed year-round. A memorial service is planned for 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2018 at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorials will be appreciated.  A surprise favor to brighten a neighbor’s day would be even more like Jerry.
