Jill “Jillie” Lillian (McMeekan) Winsor
Jill Lillian Winsor, 66, Hibbing (Babbitt) MN went to be with our Lord Jesus on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 after a long battle with lung disease at Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing. She was born on July 4, 1946 in Christchurch, New Zealand to Richard and Elwyn (McDonald) McMeekan. Jill moved to Hibbing, Minnesota in 1964 after marrying Duane J. Winsor and later resided and raised her family in Babbitt, MN from 1967 to 2000 where she remains close to many of her longtime friends. Jill then moved back to Hibbing to be closer to her daughter Jodie and was a member in a recovery program since 2003. Jill assisted many members in their recovery and recently received her 10 year sobriety medallion in February of this year. Jill lived to cook and entertain with all of her family and friends throughout life and was known for her great sense of humor and compassion for others in need.
Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Elwyn McMeekan. She is survived by her ex-husband, Duane Winsor, Babbitt, MN; daughter, Donna (Mohamed “Moe”) Almorabi in Orchard Park, NY; son, Dennis (Alejandra “Ale”) Winsor, Rosemount, MN; daughter, Jodie (Darren) Pierson, Hibbing, three brothers, Ian, Errol, and Gary MeMeekan, all of New Zealand; two sisters, June (McMeekan) Davidson, Australia, and Kay (McMeekan) Bell, New Zealand, Jill was also blessed and survived by her 10 grandchildren, three adopted grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, all newborn-25 years of age.
Funeral services for Jill will be held at 6:00pm, Monday, May 27, 2013 at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing 2615 1st Avenue. Family time will be from 4:30pm until 5:00pm, Friends and public visitation will be from 5-6pm. A reception will follow the 6:00pm service at the funeral home.
