Joan M. Norton

Joan M Norton age 94 of Hibbing died on July 11, 2024, at the Glenn of Minnetonka senior living facility. Joan was born in Duluth MN to George and Theodora Gelineau on May 10, 1930. She graduated from St. James grade school in 1945 and from Duluth Cathedral High School in 1948. After graduation she worked for N.W. Bell Telephone Co. where she met her husband, John G. Norton. They were married on May 16, 1953. After their marriage they lived in Sandstone, North Branch and Pine City before being transferred to Hibbing in April of 1970. Joan was very active at the University Medical Center--Mesabi, Leisure Hills Nursing Home, and the Hibbing Catholic Community. 

She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, three brothers, George Jr., Donald, Eugene and her sister, Florence Joyal, twin infant daughters and one infant son.

Joan is survived by her sons Michael (Joan) Norton of Britt, Mark Norton of Cody Wyoming and daughters Anne Caucci and Maureen (Michael) Jacobs both of Minneapolis and 6 grandchildren, Richard, Michael John, Jessica, Toni Jo, Melissa and Corissa, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Joan will be 11:00 am, Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Daniel Weiske will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing with Wake Prayers at 6:30 pm. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Hibbing Catholic Community, Fairview Range Medical Center Auxiliary, or Brighton Hospice of St. Louis Park MN. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
