Joanne Ellen Petrangelo
Joanne Ellen Petrangelo, 62, lifelong Chisholm and Hibbing resident, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN after a one year battle with cancer. She was born on December 22, 1954 to Richard and Esther (Poirier) Edmonds in Hibbing. Joanne graduated from Hibbing High School in 1973.
Joanne is remembered by her husband John Petrangelo of Hibbing, a daughter Melissa (Todd) Scaia of Chisholm, a son Bill (Mae) Petrangelo of Shoreview, MN, sisters: Susie Edmonds of Hibbing, and Roxanne Matrious of Blaine, MN, a brother Terry Edmonds of Hibbing, and a sister-in-law, Debbie Edmonds of Hibbing; grandchildren: Jon Petrangelo, Mirabella Scaia, Joseph Petrangelo, Evan Scaia, and Jack Petrangelo. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Garry Edmonds.
After marrying John at 16 years of age, she put all of her energy into raising her two children, Melissa and Bill before opening Custom Lettering first in the basement of her home in Chisholm and then in downtown Hibbing. She retired in December of 2016. She loved watching all of her grandchildren at their sporting events, going to “scrapbook camp” with her friends, attending live concert events, and hosting and creating a free neighborhood Halloween party with her own “spooky woods” for small children. She was also a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She enjoyed volunteering for local domestic violence and cancer charities. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest love was helping others. Joanne’s motto was, “live, love, and laugh.” She leaves us rich in memories of her beautiful heart, soul and smile.
Memorial services for Joanne will be at 11 am, Saturday July 22, 2017 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, lead by Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial, with co-officiants Fr. Ryan Moravitz, Fr. Anthony Craig, and Fr. Nick Nelson. Visitation will be from 9am until the service at 11am at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to the Angel Fund, a local cancer charity - Angel Fund PO Box 114, Hibbing, MN 55746. Arrangements are with Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
