Joanne M. Sample

Joanne Margaret Sample, age 86, passed away on Saturday February 8, 2025, at the Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul, MN. She was born on March 22, 1938, in Hibbing, MN to Joseph and Clara (Passino) Frider. 

Joanne met Samuel Sample in 1963, and they were married on July 11, 1964. Together they started a family in Cloquet, MN, raising their four children and eventually ended up in St. Paul. She was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Her faith was of utmost importance as she was active in the church and attended mass regularly.

She was a Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed watching football and scary movies. Joanne had a heart of gold and loved her family dearly as she was a fierce protector in any situation although her bark was worse than her bite. She had a great sense of humor and was also a bit feisty and mischievous. Joann adored her grandkids and loved treating them to Dairy Queen. She was always there to help others no matter what the task might be and would stand up for others in any situation.

Joanne is survived by her children Linda (Brad) Marker, Steven Sample, Scott Sample and Laura (Chris) Kraskey, grandchildren Jennifer, Anthony, Travis, Alexander (Erica) and Emily (Daniel), great granddaughter Sophia and siblings Donald, Richard, Wally, Michael, Eleanor, Bernice, June and Sharon along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings Bernadine, Clarence, Francis, Robert and William.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Hibbing, MN. Fr. Bill Skarich will officiate services. Visitation will take place one hour prior to mass on Monday and from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. Interment will take place at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
