John Roy Babb, 79, Hibbing, MN.
John was born in 1934 to Roy Babb and Alline Woods in Piedmont Missouri. John was a proud 21year Veteran of the U.S. Army serving our country twice during the Vietnam War. Prior to his Retirement as Command Sergeant Major he distinguished himself in earning two Bronze Stars, Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and numerous other awards for Leadership, Knowledge and Dedication to his Soldiers.
After the service, John enjoyed many occupations including: carpentry contractor building residences, buildings, and performing home repairs, management of several gasoline businesses, and as a tire mechanic at Hibbing Taconite. John enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends, watching the Vikings and Golf tournaments on TV, doing projects on his and his children homes and especially enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was an avid family man. He was hardworking, loving, loyal and dedicated to his wife of 56 years and selfless dedicated himself to ensure the happiness and future of his four children! He was a friend to all who had the honor to know him and he will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife Annelore Babb; Three Daughters and one Son: Petra (James) Cunningham of Hibbing, MN, Evelyn (Paul Checco) Babb of Hibbing, MN, Linda Babb of Hibbing, MN, and John (Cheryl) Babb of Crofton, MD; Two Brothers: Jerome (Rita) Babb of Sterling Heights, MI and Paul (Janice) Babb of Saint Clair Shores, MI; One Half-Brother James Babb and a Half-Sister Ila Babb; Two Sister-In-Law: Joann Fassett of Piedmont, SC., Else Willfurth of Nurnberg, Germany and one Brother-In-Law: Robert Horn of Germany.
He was blessed with Eight Grandchildren: Jimmy Cunningham, Rosiann Babb, Cheruy Needham, Rachel Cunningham, Jeremy Kime, Chyloe Cheetham, Cheric Vigeant, and Chylene Babb; and Eleven Great Grandchildren: Caylee Martin, Jesse Cunningham, Syreena Babb, Aidane Babb, Tony Needham, Marley Needham, Tyson Needham, Malia Cheetham, Maile Cheetham, Caleb Vigeant, and Owen Vigeant; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Willie Horn.
Per John’s request, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
