John Francis Fillman
John Francis “Jocko” Fillman, 76, lifelong Hibbing resident, died Friday, September 1, 2017 at his home. He was born in Hibbing to Donald and Helen (Jarvi) Fillman on May 9, 1941. John was a Hibbing High School graduate of the class of 1959. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1966 to 1968 at Ft. Hood, Texas. John was the owner/operator of the T-Shirt Factory in Hibbing, MN. He was an active member of M.U.N.G. Industries and The Last Friday of the Month Club. He enjoyed cars, car shows, and was in the process of making a Street Rod out of his 1932 Chevrolet that he first purchased when he was 18 years old and re-acquired after 40 years to become his dream project. . Woodworking was also one of his passions, which he was quite talented.
John is survived by his longtime companion, Marilyn (Davich) Salmi, Bigfork, sons, Tony (Laurie) Fillman, Duluth, Johnny (Marina Maric’) Fillman, Minneapolis, MN, and Tommy Fillman, four brothers, Donald, Cherry, MN, Gary (Jayne) and Albert (Marsha) both of Hibbing, and Edwin (Connie) in Buhl, seven grandchildren, Beau, Charlee, Shantel, Megan, Christopher and Hannah, and Mina, one great-granddaughter, Ivy, and step-son Michael Hardy & family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Bobby Fillman.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am., Friday, September 8, 2017 in the Dougherty Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Dissell officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by Mid-Range Honor Guard.
