John W. Ivanca, 62, lifelong resident of Hibbing, died Saturday, September 23, 2023 at his home. He was born April 23, 1961, to William and Mary Ann (Fena) Ivanca. John attended Hibbing schools and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1980. He completed a diesel mechanic program at Hibbing Technical College.

John worked as a heavy machine mechanic for his entire working life. Most recently he was employed with the City of Hibbing garage, finally having found a job he loved. John was an extremely hard worker. He volunteered for overtime shifts to help co-workers out if they needed to be with their families.

John was a lifelong motorhead. He could fix any machine. He kept vehicles, tractors and various small engines running for family and friends. John loved motorcycles and travelling, always terrifying his loved ones with his impromptu, helmetless adventures. He took great pride in his large collection of motorcycles. He was also a past member of the local ATV Club. 

John was an exceptionally devoted father and grandfather. He treasured his grandchildren and was a bonus grandpa to extended family little ones.  

He is survived by his daughter, Becky Ivanca (Mike Mackie), sister, Annette Wellbrock, two grandchildren, Destiny and Abel Mackie, niece, Corinne Ivanca (Joel Gephart), nephew, Ian and family, and grandnieces Zelda and Lark Gephart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary, infant brother William, and brother Peter.

A gathering of family and friends for John will be from 2-5pm, Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
