John F. Kapla
John F. Kapla, 100, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Hillcrest Parkside Residence in Hibbing. He was born on January 22, 1915 to Anton and Mary (Kocmur) Kapla in Hibbing. He was a graduate of the Hibbing High School. After school he proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was stationed in Egypt for three years and was a part of the North African Theatre. After the war, John was employed with the Hibbing Postal service retiring after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, the VFW Post 8510 of Hibbing, the Hibbing Elks Lodge, the Hibbing Moose, the Hibbing Bowling League, and was an active member of the Mesaba Country Club for 60 years. He enjoyed fishing as one of his favorite pastimes.
He is survived by his four nephews, Jim Kapla, Ham Lake, MN, Thomas (Karen) Kapla, Bismarck, ND, Paul (Alice) Kapla, Marshfield, WI, and Jack (Kay) Kapla, Hibbing, and his niece, Gail (Ken) Kublie, Dubuque, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and (Mary) (Kocmur) Kapla, and three brothers, Tony, Louis, and Jack Kapla.
Funeral services for John will be held at 12:30pm, Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Nick Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
