John was born in Barnum, MN on August 4, 1941, to John and Ester Rowe. He grew up in Buhl,
MN where he graduated from Martin Hughes High School in 1960. John enlisted in the United
States Army and served his country from 1960 to 1964. Stationed in Germany, he was an

saw a lot and did a lot. He often told stories of driving around Europe in his Volkswagen Beetle.
He also shared that the German Beer was pretty darn good!
After his honorable service in the US Army, John settled in Hibbing, MN, with his wife Judy, to
raise their family. John worked for National Steele (Hannah Mining) until he retired. John was an
active member of the United Steel Workers Local 2660 and served in the union in various
capacities including Vise President. For many years John and his friends set up a Christmas
Tree lot, with the most beautiful trees for the residents of Hibbing. Throughout their married life,
John and Judy traveled far and wide following Dirt Track Racing and NASCAR. In retirement,
John and Judy spent winters at their home in Florida. John worked hard his entire life and is well
