John Frank Sapan
John F. Sapan, 97, lifelong resident of Keewatin died Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center of Hibbing. John was born on January 26, 1916 to John and Katherine (Lubonovich) Sapan in Keewatin, MN. After high school John proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, John entered the Sacrament of Marriage with Angeline Serratore in May of 1945 in Keewatin. John was employed as an electrician with M.A. Hanna, and National Steel until his retirement. John was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keewatin, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Keewatin Senior Citizens Club. He was an avid outdoorsmen, whether it was hunting, fishing, or working on his deer stands, John loved spending time in the woods. John also tended his vegetable gardens, he was known for handing out suckers to the neighborhood children, and personally made and delivered Bakala to his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, John “Jack” (Linda) Sapan, Rochester, MN., daughter, Patricia “Patty” (Louis) Price, Grand Rapids, MN., five grandchildren, Gina (Jamie) Peters, Charlotte, NC., Lisa (Brock) Selleck, River Falls, WI., Kim (Nate Gansen) Sapan, Minneapolis, MN., Katie (Marco Gatti) Sapan, Philadelphia, PA., and Kelly (Matt) Jensen, of Rochester, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Angeline, parents, John and Katherine (Lubonovich) Sapan, two brothers, and his two sisters.
Funeral services for John will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until the 2:00pm funeral Mass at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. Memorials are preferred to the donors choice.
