John Anthony Zauhar, 90, lifelong resident of Nashwauk, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Grand Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids surrounded by his family and friends.  He was born to John and Mary Zauhar on June 11, 1923 in Nashwauk, MN.  John was Owner /Operator of Zauhar’s Grocery in Nashwauk from 1954 until his retirement in 1983.   He was Mayor of Nashwauk from 1961 to 1972, a member of the Nashwauk Fire Dept. for 20 years, School Board for 15 years, the Police Commission, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Nashwauk.
John is survived by his wife, N. Kim Zauhar, 2 daughters, Michelle (Bill) Smith, Austin, TX, and Jean (Kevin) Hammelev, Glendale, AZ, three step sons, Tim (Anita) Provinzino, Chisholm, MN, Paul Provinzino, Cohasset, MN, Tony (Toni Henderson)  Provinzino, Comstock, MN, his sister, Margaret Wijas, Chicago, IL, 7 grandchildren, Rosemary (Brent) Hall, Ariel & Ariann Smith, Matthew & Lauren Hammelev, Whitney, Teagan, and Dominic Provinzino,  one great grandson, David John Hall, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Tolyan Zauhar, daughter, Mary Beth Vazquez, brothers, Tom, Russell, and Henry, sisters, Bonnie Satovich and Elizabeth Schullo, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Friday, August 9, 2013 in St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Dennis Hoffman celebrating the Mass.  Visitation will be in the  Church, Friday starting at 10:00 am.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, MN.   Memorials are preferred to the Nashwauk Community Foundation.
