Joseph A. Brownell, 27, Meadowlands, MN was taken too soon on Saturday, June 4, 2016, near Sparta, MN. He was born April 20, 1989, in Hibbing, MN to Gregory Brownell and Barrie Baratto. He grew up in Mt. Iron, MN and had graduated from Hibbing High School. After he graduated from Hibbing Community College’s Diesel Mechanic program in 2009, he went to work for Hibbing Taconite. He bought his first horse “Bandit” and that led to he and the love of his life, Alisha, along with help from his father, buying the “Brownell Ranch” in Meadowlands. He was an annual participant in the Effie Rodeo and loved to show children the fun of being with horses. His relationships with friends were most important to him. Whether it was with his partner in crime, Cade Lofquist, or his other friends, Joseph loved fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, or fooling around with diesel trucks. His ready smile and loving nature were a gift enjoyed by all. He was a member of the Meadowlands Fire Dept. and also was a frequent participant in the Mud Nationals.
He is survived by his father, Gregory (Christine) Brownell, of Mt. Iron, MN; his mother, Barrie (Rick Wollin) Baratto, of Chisholm, MN; two brothers: John (Cassidy Baron) Brownell of Chisholm and Brent (Maria Stevens) Brownell of Mt. Iron; his maternal grandfather Maynard (Sally) Baratto; his maternal grandmother, Shari Baratto; both from Hibbing; his paternal grandmother, Joanne Brownell, of Hibbing; the love of his life, Alisha Scofield; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James Brownell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 10, in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing. Visitation will be in the Dougherty Funeral Home, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and also in the church Friday from 10 am. until service time. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. Pallbearers are: John Brownell, Brent Brownell, Alisha Scofield, Joel Faust, Frank Chamernick, Cade Lofquist, Drake Waters, Andy Prebeg, Jesse Sirjord, Aaron Garrelts, and Joe Centa.
