Joseph R. Leinonen, 48, Hibbing, passed away November 11, 2018 in Duluth. He was born June 4, 1970 to Richard and Colleen (Willett) Leinonen in Virginia. Joe grew up in Eveleth before moving to Hibbing in 1997. He was a union cement finisher by trade and later showed his true compassion in working to help adults with disabilities. He loved his fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. No matter the lake, he could catch a walleye like no other and celebrated many a deer season with a trophy buck. Finnish SISU, a heart of gold and deep faith in God are what made him who he was. He treasured his family, especially his daughter. He was a loving son, brother, father, and friend. Joe is survived by his daughter, KaeLea Leinonen, mother, Colleen Paolo (Tim Trygg), sister, Kelly (Greg) Lind, nephews, Jack and Ben Lind, stepmom, Carol (Davey) Leinonen, aunt, Bonnie Martinson, special cousins, Barry Martinson jr., David Wauzynski, David Anderson numerous extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Leinonen, uncle, Barry Martinson sr., paternal grandparents, Arnold and Barbara Ann (Schley) Leinonen and maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Darlene (Berg) Willet. Memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday November 17, 2018 at Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
