Joseph Edward Mlaker
Joseph E. Mlaker, 99, lifelong resident of Hibbing passed peacefully Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing.  He was born on April 5, 1915 to Joseph and Angeline (Stark) Mlaker in Hibbing.  Joseph, over the years worked for the DM & IR Railroad as a boilermaker, and with the ore mines at Carson Location as a catskinner.  He later owned and operated Mlaker’s Repair Shop.  Joseph faithfully ran his shop from 1953 to 2013.  He was a workaholic, he loved being at the shop and was very mechanically inclined.   Joseph built two airplanes earlier in his career, he flew them, crashed them and repaired them.  He also putzed on Harley Davidson motorcycles, and enjoyed riding them as well.
He is survived by his son, Edward (Karen) Mlaker, Jacobson, MN, their children, Marie Hansen and Lisa (Pat) Platt, his daughter, Betty Mae Mlaker, Missoula, MT, and her children, Jeff Anderson and Kay Anderson, great-grandchildren, Curtis and Nicole Hansen, his nieces, nephews, and his special friend and caregiver for many years, Dan Zaitz, Hibbing.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Frank and John Mlaker, and three sisters, Angeline, Sophie, and Mary Ann.
Funeral services for Joseph will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hibbing.  The Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Saturday.  Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.  Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
