Joyce Marian (Landswick) Olson

Joyce Marian (Landswick) Olson, 92, longtime resident of Hibbing, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

Joyce was born on December 10, 1924 at Penobscot Location, the daughter of Ole “Ted” and Alma (Larson) Landswick. She and her twin sister, Bette, were the youngest of 7 siblings. Joyce graduated from Hibbing High School in 1942. She completed a secretarial program at Hibbing Junior College and began working at a local business where she met her future husband.

She married Donald H. Olson on November 7, 1947 in Hibbing at Wesley United Methodist church. They lived briefly in Minneapolis while Don finished his engineering degree, then moved back to their hometown of Hibbing to raise a family. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker who was very devoted to her family and loved dearly by all her children.

She had many friends in the community and was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Hannah Circle. Joyce had energy to spare and loved playing games of all kinds, including golf, curling, bowling, bocce, cards and marbles.  She was a steadfast member of the Tourist Center Senior Citizens group, the Mesaba Concert Association and enjoyed attending country shows at Maple Hill Hall.

She is survived by her children: Tim Olson of Hibbing; Joan Olson (Chris Fenno) of Ann Arbor, MI; Dick (Sheri) Olson of Devils Lake, ND; and Pat Olson of Virginia, MN; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; son, Terry; parents Ted and Alma; 2 brothers, Vernon and Earl; 5 sisters, Gladys, Bernice, Vera, Luella and Bette.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 1, 2017 in The Wesley United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be in the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time.  Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
