Judith Ellen Shipka, 77, Hibbing died April 28, 2013 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at the Guardian Angels Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hibbing. She was born May 16, 1935 to Sture and Linnea (Blom) Fyhrlund in Hibbing. Judy grew up and spent most of her life on Swan Lake. She married Joe Shipka in May of 1953, and they had three sons. She then retired from Inter-Range Oil in Hibbing after working there for 30 years. Judy was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was thoughtful, loving, giving, and always very honest. She was a great cook and loved to bake. She later moved to Fountain Hills, AZ where she enjoyed her family, and volunteer work with hospice.
She is survived by her three sons, Joe (Donna Naglieri) Shipka, Fountain Hills, AZ., John (Karen Hemstad) Shipka, Edina, MN., and Jim (Susan) Shipka, Tempe, AZ., three brothers, Clarence “Cy” (Evelyn) Fyhrlund, Pequot Lakes, MN., Eldor Fyhrlund, Rockford, IL., and Arch (Jerri) Sterling, IL., sister, Dorothy Martin, Rockford, IL., nine grandchildren, Cindy, Cathy, Chris, Joseph, Jack, Justin, Allison, Leanne, and Terra, and three great-grandchildren, Isabel, Noah, and Anistyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sture and Linnea (Blom) Fyhrlund, and her husband Joseph Shipka in 2000.
Funeral services for Judy will be held at 11:00am, Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. The Rev. Kevin Norton will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Friday. A private family interment will be in the Nashwauk Cemetery in Nashwauk. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
